Anything soft and spreadable that's safe for your pet. Popular choices include peanut butter (xylitol-free), plain yogurt, wet dog or cat food, bone broth, cream cheese, pumpkin purée, and banana. We include a free filling guide with every order with 15 vet-approved recipes.
Yes — from 8 weeks. The silicone is completely non-toxic and the grooves are designed so young pets can't bite off pieces. Lick mats are actually especially beneficial for puppies and kittens as a teething redirection tool and for building positive associations with grooming routines early on.
Dishwasher safe — top rack. The food-grade silicone doesn't harbour bacteria or absorb odours. For quick clean-ups between uses, a 30-second rinse under hot water with a drop of dish soap does the job. The grooves clean easily — no scrubbing required.
5–15 minutes at room temperature. 20–40 minutes frozen. The trick to keeping them engaged is variety — rotate fillings, freeze it on some days, use different spots on the mat. Pets that use lick mats daily rarely lose interest as long as you vary the contents.
Absolutely — and we recommend it. Freezing is the unlock for maximum calm sessions. Spread your filling, lay it flat in the freezer for a few hours or overnight, then serve. A frozen mat extends licking time dramatically — ideal for when you're leaving the house, during storms, or recovery after surgery.
Start with something irresistible — peanut butter or wet food tend to win even the most sceptical pets. Try placing a tiny smear on top of the mat first so they discover the groove by following the scent. Some pets take a session or two to get the idea. If they still show no interest after 3 tries with different fillings, contact us — we'll help troubleshoot or refund you.
Classic works for most dogs and all cats. XL is designed for large and giant breeds (Labradors, German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, etc.) who can clean a Classic mat too quickly. Kitty features smaller, finer grooves designed specifically for cats' narrower tongues — ideal for cats of any size.
